Here are six Tail Trick Deer Decoy tips to help you become a more successful Deerhunter. Learn why motion is essential in a deer decoy, how to select a decoy that is right for the hunting set, where to place your decoy when to take the shot, where to place your hunting stand, and how to use other deer attractants with it to hunt deer
Tail Trick Deer Decoys swish their tail every 15 seconds. The flash of white from the tail attracts the attention of bucks on the move. Bucks identify the flash of white as a deer and move closer to the deer (decoy) to feed, socialize, dominate, or mate. The realism of the natural deer movement lures bucks into range, creates a shot opportunity for the hunter, and holds bucks for the shot.
Use FOOD PLOT & RUT Deer Decoy™ all season long in food plots and open woods to create a sense of safety and give bucks confidence to come out sooner. Use FOOD PLOT & RUT Deer Decoy™ during the rut to simulate a mating opportunity that lures rutting bucks closer for a shot opportunity.
Use DEER RUT Decoy™ as a buck during the rut to simulate a fighting chance that lures dominant bucks out of cover and into range for a fight. Works in open woods and food plots. Removable antler included. Use DEER RUT Decoy™ as a doe during the rut to simulate a mating opportunity that attracts both dominant and sub-dominant bucks looking for a chance to mate. Works in open woods and food plots.
All whitetail deer have a Personal Space Boundary (PSB). They keep this distance between themselves and deer (your decoy) they don't know or normally socialize with. PSB distances are approximately 25-50 paces, longer with some deer and shorter with others. Place your decoy so approaching deer are not within their PSB when they first see the decoy. The decoy should have at least 50-60 feet of "free" space on its front, left, and right sides.
When a buck reaches his PSB with a Tail Trick Deer Decoy, he usually stops and stares for a moment. This creates a great shot opportunity for the deer hunter, who should anticipate and prepare for it. Bucks seldom try to mount a decoy, so don't wait for him to try to mate with your decoy before you shoot him.
After a brief stop at the decoy, bucks will usually do one of four things: walk a circle around the decoy, feed near the decoy, threaten the decoy, or leave. Once at the PSB, bucks usually display one of the following social behaviors: a willingness to socialize, submission, or aggression. Most of the time, a hunter will get additional shot opportunities.
Position your hunting stand, so your scent trail doesn't "flow" with the scent trail of the decoy. Some bucks will circle the decoy downwind to identify it by smell. If they catch your scent, you're busted.
Be sure to place your stand where you can see the decoy and the bucks approaching it. NEVER sit or stand in front of or behind a Tail Trick Deer Decoy! ALWAYS hunt on the thin side of a Tail Trick Deer Decoy. ALWAYS hunt at least 75 paces away from a Tail Trick Deer Decoy. ALWAYS wear hunter's orange when carrying, setting up, or hunting with a Tail TrickDeer Decoy.
The SIGHT of a deer (created by a deer decoy) combined with the SOUND of a deer(created by a deer call) and the SMELL of a deer (created by deer scent) makes MAXIMUM SENSORY ATTRACTION that lures bucks closer. Put deer scent near the decoy but not on it. After some time, some odors may sour on your decoy and spook approaching deer.
When using a deer call, stop blowing as soon as you think you have a deer coming in. When approaching bucks see the decoy, their attention will be diverted away from you and your calling position and fixated on the decoy. The diversion will give you time and the opportunity to make a shot without getting busted. Handle your decoy with latex gloves to keep it free of human scent.
